FAQs on Prostate Massage

By Robert William Locke

Up to recently, prostate massage was not even mentioned. It is now being discussed more openly and is less of a taboo subject than before. Chronic prostatitis, infertility and enlarged prostate (BPH) are conditions where a massage of the prostate can be very beneficial.

Provided you do not have very severe symptoms, eg. acute prostatitis, prostate massage can be a great help in relieving symptoms. It can be part of the treatment for prostate conditions and can complement antibiotic treatment and herbal remedies. The great advantage is that massage can stimulate the blood circulation in the pelvic area.

Prostate cancer patients should NOT consider prostate massage as an alternative as it could cause the cancer to metastasize. Patients with an infection of the prostate should not have a massage either as it could cause the release of bacteria into the bloodstream, thus making the situation much worse.

Usually massage of whatever type or wherever in the body can have beneficial effects and help to release the the 'happy' endorphins and thereby increase the feeling of wellness and optimism. As regards the prostate, if you lead a sedentary existence, then this is going to mean that blood will stagnate in the area of the prostate- a massge is essential to stimulate the blood circulation.

Quite simply, prostate massage stimulates the prostate with a finger or massage tool with the intention of relaxation and/or pleasure. Prostate massage manually stimulates the prostate gland, flushing fluid from the gland and encouraging blood flow to the entire pelvis. It is like giving the gland a good rinsing and getting rid of all the toxins and other debris that tend to be deposited in the gland. Usually a very light circular motion with a finger or massager will be sufficient.

This type of massage, carried out regularly over a period of time, can actually reduce the size of the prostate, thereby increasing the flow of urine. Men also notice that there are improvements when they previously suffered from erectile dysfunction. The fact that it stimulates the flow of blood in an area very difficult to reach, means that it is often the most effective prostate treatment available.

Many people do not realize that EXTERNAL massage of the pelvic area can be almost as effective and has a lot of advantages over internal massage. The areas to concentrate on here are the zone above the pubic bone and working up towards the belly button.

There are many considerations to take into account when deciding to do prostate massage. It may well be easier to do an external massage rather than an internal one. You may also consider a herbal remedy which will require very little effort on your part. Much research has been done into the beneficial effects of herbal remedies especially saw palmetto, pygeum, zinc and lycopene and also beta-sitosterol.
