By Jerry K. Blackburn
For those who live on either coast or within the few miles to the coast you will probably find that there are some types of storms that you have survived in your lifeline. You may end up with a storm as gentle as a small thunderstorm or you may end up having to deal with terrible events. You need to be prepared for such things, but you will also want to take the following inconsideration when it comes to protections for your assets and for your home.
You can never be too prepared for things like a hurricane. You will want to make sure that you and your family has a plan. You'll want to make sure that your family has a meeting spot that they can go to if separated in case of bad weather.
Also, don't forget that you will have to make an emergency hit. This is where you will put all the important safety aids into a box and then you'll want to leave it at your safe spot. You will want to include things like fresh water, snacks, candles, lighter/matches, and a radio with fresh batteries. This way you'll be able to get all the help that you need, but also make your family feel safe.
You'll also need to know your area. This way when the town lets out the emergency warnings you'll be able to make a clear path to shelter. You will want to evacuate some areas, and it should always be taken serious. You will need to learn how to evacuate the routes and get to the shelters.
Also, don't forget that you'll need supplies. You will find that there are some things that you need to do on a regular basis. You will want to have an adequate supply of food and water and you will want to make sure that your medications are well stocked. For those who really are in danger then you need to think about filling up buckets, sinks, bathtubs, and anything else with as much water as possible.
Then you will want to prepare your structure. This means that you will need to take some action against the violence that your home will endure. Board up the windows and cover all your glass windows. Also, don't forget the gas.
You will definitely need to have water, but you should never allow your car to go below the half mark in case you need to live town quickly. You will want to make sure that you will be able to be mobile, even when the gas stations choose to shut down.
Keep in mind that your pets are a huge part of the family. You will want to make sure that you take your pets with you. This way you don't feel like you left something important behind. You will want to pack them in the car with you and you will also find that many hotels will accommodate pets when it comes to situations like emergencies.
